Got me singing along with some half-hearted victory song..
It's been a very strange couple of weeks. I have so much to say, but I'm not sure any of it merits documentation. I have tried to write about it, but it just seems so fantastically mundane. I don't want to be complaining about work politics - I may as well talk about the throes of a wheat-free diet. Suffice to say that I have been consumed by the ineffectuality of people in general, but even more so by the complacency of people fattened by power. I'm unbelievably disillusioned, but right now, I'm rocking out to the new Franz Ferdinand (Thank you, Mommy!) and everything is swathed in the beauty of jagged guitars.
("Do You Want To.." is bursting at the seams with danceable silliness. I mean that in the best way possible.)
Today is exactly one year since training ended - So exactly a year ago, overwhelmed by poisonous pizza and star-shaped affections, I burst out crying during check outs, because that was the only way to express the joy, sadness and relief I was feeling. It's also exactly a year since I walked home with Erin from our music theory exam, eagerly anticipating Thanksgiving weekend in NYC. A year since I first heard "Rebellion (Lies)" and started listening to The Arcade Fire. A year since my first Greyhound trip. I store dates like a camel stores water. Sometimes I wonder if it's healthy.
(Holy Crap, this is a fucking fantastic album. I'm really liking "Eleanor Put Your Boots On.")
All of it feels like several moons ago, but also like it was just yesterday. I can barely believe it's been almost six months since I saw any of my precious Montreal people. You know, August was an amazing month for me, but apparently, I was just flying to fall. As it turns out, every single person that challenged my apprehensions about Bombay was not from here; the city was just a whistle-stop on their grand adventures. Now they're all gone, and I'm back to feeling like a stranger in my own home.
(Let's fade together, let's fade forever...)
On the brighter side, Pujo's coming up! It's been four years since the last time I was here for it. Traditionally, we always got ridiculously excited, ridiculously dressed up, ridiculously bored and after four days of godless - goddessless, rather - celebration, we anticipated the next year with ridiculous eagerness.
This year, my inordinate excitement comes from having been away for so long, but also from the fact that my mother is here to partake in overdressed boredom with me! There are few people as unequivocally awesome as Mamas.
