Listen to the pretty sound of music as she flies...

For no reason at all, I compiled a list of all-time favourite songs. I'm restricting it to twenty, and to one song per artist, so it's not a comprehensive - or exhaustive - list by any means. I'm also posting the lyrics to "Waterloo Sunset" because I'm listening to it on my headphones right now, and I'm struck yet again by how stunningly perfect the song is in every goddamned way.

In no order:

1)The Beatles - Dear Prudence

2) Elliott Smith - Condor Avenue

3) Bob Dylan - Tangled Up in Blue

4) Van Morrison - Astral Weeks

5) U2 - One

6)Fiona Apple - Paper Bag

7) CSNY - Our House

8) Beck - Cold Brains

9) The Zombies - This Will Be Our Year

10) The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset

11) Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should've Come Over

12) Wilco - Nothingsevergonnastandinmyway

13) Travelling Wilburys - Handle with Care

14) Paul Simon - Duncan

15) Simon and Garfunkel - America

16) Leonard Cohen - Chelsea Hotel #2

17) Velvet Underground - Venus in Furs

18) The Byrds - Eight Miles High

19) The Smiths - There is a Light That Never Goes Out

20) David Bowie - Oh You Pretty Things!

Dirty old river, must you keep rolling
Flowing into the night
People so busy, makes me feel dizzy
Taxi light shines so bright
But I don’t need no friends
As long as I gaze on waterloo sunset
I am in paradise

Every day I look at the world from my window
But chilly, chilly is the evening time
Waterloo sunset’s fine

Terry meets julie, waterloo station
Every friday night
But I am so lazy, don’t want to wander
I stay at home at night
But I don’t feel afraid
As long as I gaze on waterloo sunset
I am in paradise

Every day I look at the world from my window
But chilly, chilly is the evening time
Waterloo sunset’s fine

Millions of people swarming like flies ’round waterloo underground
But terry and julie cross over the river
Where they feel safe and sound
And the don’t need no friends
As long as they gaze on waterloo sunset
They are in paradise

Waterloo sunset’s fine
